Storage Tips
General Storage Information
No Hazardous Materials
Do not store hazardous or toxic materials, flammable liquids or gases, or food. Ask staff if you're unsure about an item.
Avoid Combustibles
Do not store items like propane tanks, old paint, cleaning fluids, or gasoline. These can cause or intensify fires.
Provide Your Own Insurance
You are responsible for insuring your stored property. The storage operator does not provide insurance coverage.
Authorized Access Only
Only the tenant may access the unit unless others are listed in the rental agreement under access rights.
Check Your Unit Regularly
Visit your unit occasionally, inspect all sides of your belongings, and report any issues right away.
Moving Out Guidelines
Give at least 10 days written notice, remove all belongings and trash, clean the unit, and remove your lock.
Moisture and Climate Concerns
For fabric or temperature-sensitive items, consider a climate-controlled unit. Never store anything wet to avoid mildew.
Packing Tips
Fill Boxes Completely
Partially filled or bulging boxes may collapse or tip—fill them to capacity.
Label Everything
Label cartons clearly to make retrieving items easier.
Books and Documents
Pack books flat in small boxes to protect spines and keep boxes easy to carry. Heavy items go on the bottom.
Dishes and Glassware
Wrap each item individually, nest smaller items, stand plates upright, and fill gaps with packing materials.
Mirrors and Glass
Wrap glass items carefully and store them on their edges rather than flat.
Lamp Packing
Wrap lamp shades separately using blank paper to prevent ink transfer from newspaper.
Furniture Tips
Stand mattresses and sofas on end, disassemble beds and tables, wrap legs, and cover upholstery with plastic.
Appliances and Electronics
Clean thoroughly, defrost fridges, drain washers, remove doors, and use desiccants to control moisture.
Lawn Equipment
Drain fuel completely from lawn mowers and snow blowers before storing.
Bicycles and Tools
Apply a light coat of oil to prevent rust and store away from furniture to avoid staining.
Clothing and Shoes
Use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes, store shoes at the bottom, and fold other clothes into drawers or boxes.
Flooring and Airflow
Use pallets or boards to elevate items off the floor and maintain air circulation. Leave a walkway for access.
